Abstract

This research analyzed the levels of burnout and coping strategies as for job stress in nurses working of public hospitals. The MBI and EMEP scales Sociodemographic Data were applied in 193 professionals. Descriptive analysis was done, Cluster and the Student t test. The results identified two groups with the following burnout settings: 1) Advanced and 2) Moderate, 47.4% and 36.6% of the sample, respectively. The Depersonalization stood out as the most affected dimension of burnout and no coping strategy proved sufficiently effective in combating labor stressors. The Depersonalization is the interpersonal aspect of the syndrome, which is discussed as a possible unconscious protection to avoid emotional involvement with patients. This proctetion may be making things even harder.
