MARTINS, Pedro Pablo Sampaio; GUANAES-LORENZI, Carla; LANNAMANN, John Willard  e  MCNAMEE, Sheila. The Coordinated Management of Meaning Theory in Psychological Research. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2015, vol.67, n.2, pp. 3-18. ISSN 1809-5267.

Psychology began to engage in research focused on language and human interaction after the so-called "linguistic turn". This demanded the examination of working methods that were under the domain of other disciplines. The purpose of this article is to describe the methodological implications of applying a communication theory - The Theory of the Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) - to research in Psychology. By analyzing an interview, we demonstrate the possibility of using CMM Theory in psychological inquiries. Thus, we describe the interview as a coordinated activity in which the meanings that count as the interviewee's experience are constructed as contextualized interactional performances. We conclude that CMM Theory offers important resources for psychological research by analyzing the way people construct meanings about themselves and about the world, and how this affects the construction of their ways of life.
