Abstract

Functional or dysfunctional parental relationships reverberate on all members of the family system. The aim of this study was to systematically review national and international literature of the last 10 years, to map marital conflict and its reverberations on parenting and children's development. The following key words were used, at Scopus, Medline, Lilacs, SciELO and Pepsico: "couples" and "parents", "conflict" and "marriage" and "children", "spillover" and "marital" and "conflict". 76 complete articles, revied by peers, that involved the conflict in the family dinamic were selected. Results report data about the context of the studies, the instruments they used and their main findings. Data showed consistency in literature in terms of the different types of marital conflict and their consequences for children's development. A dearth of research on the topic in the Brazilian population was found.
