The aim of this study was to summarize how psychological aspects of pediatric cancer recurrence has been investigated on scientific literature. An integrative review was realized based on PubMed, LILACS, SciELO, PsycINFO and Cochrane Library indexing databases, using as descriptors: neoplasms, recurrence, neoplasm recurrence, child, family, parents and child psychology. A total of 473 studies were found and inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied. Fourteen publications were selected for analysis. Empirical design utilizing a quantitative approach was predominant. The main coping strategies used by patients and caregivers, as well as interventions to enhance quality of life were described. The panoramic view of research field shows the need to deal with uncertainty and organizing themselves to better cope with the re-starting of treatment. Understanding these experiences aids the planning for integral family care.
