Abstract

FREITAS, Eduarda Rezende  and  BARBOSA, Altemir José Gonçalves. Quality of life and psychological well-being in the climacteric. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2015, vol.67, n.3, pp. 112-124. ISSN 1809-5267.

Climacteric is characterized by significant biopsychosocial changes that, if handled improperly, can harm quality of life (QOL) and psychological well-being (PWB). In order to analyze QOL and PWE in climacteric women and the relationship between these variables with demographic and gynecological features, 59 participants completed the WHOQOL-Bref and the PGCMS. A Cluster analysis with these instruments formed two groups: higher levels and lower levels of QOL and PWB. Only hormone therapy (HT) was positively associated with higher levels of QOL and PWB. This occurred specifically with the Environment domain of WHOQOL-Bref and the Attitude toward Own Aging and with the general score of PGCMS. It can be argued that researched sample has levels of QOL and PWB consistent with those observed in other studies and the relationship between these variables and HT is indirect.

Keywords : Climacteric; Quality of life; Psychological well-being; Hormonal therapy.
