Abstract

SANTANA, Inayara Oliveira de; VASCONCELOS, Dalila Castelliano de  and  COUTINHO, Maria da Penha de Lima. Prevalence of violence against elderly in the Brazil: analytic review. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2016, vol.68, n.1, pp. 126-139. ISSN 1809-5267.

The present research consists of a systematic review of the scientific literature on the prevalence of violence against elderly people in the Brazilian context. A bibliographic survey was carried out through articles published on the LILACS, Periódicos CAPES, PubMed e PsycINFO databases, between 2008 and 2013. We used the terms "Epidemiology", "Prevalence" and "Frequency", combined with "Elder abuse". 2359 articles were recovered, out of which 06 were in accordance with the established selective criteria. Most prevalent risk factors were: psychological violence, physical violence and theft. Regarding regional studies, estimates oscillated. These outcomes reveal the need for more research on the prevalence of violence against elderly people both nationally and regionally.

Keywords : Elderly; Violence; Prevalence; Literature review; Brazil.
