Abstract

FOCH, Gisele Fernandes de Lima; SILVA, Andressa Melina Becker  and  ENUMO, Sônia Regina Fiorim. Spiritual/Religious Coping: A systematic literature review (2003-2013). Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2017, vol.69, n.2, pp. 53-71. ISSN 1809-5267.

The "spiritual/religious coping" (SRC) to deal with stress includes ways of coping widely presented by people of different cultures and it is related to better predictors of mental and physical health, and quality of life. This concept was analyzed in studies of health, by systematic literature review (2003-2013), in the electronic databases SciELO, BVS, PePSIC and PubMed, using the keywords "religious coping", in Portuguese and in English. It were collected 1.092 articles; but applying the exclusion criteria, 31 articles were fully analyzed. The results show the growing publication on the subject after 2010; the lower production in Brazil; the relationship between positive SRC and better outcomes in chronic diseases, particularly in cancer, and mental disorders as depression, which were evaluated by standardized instruments. It is important to enable professionals to deal with issues of spirituality/religiosity in the area of health.

Keywords : Religion; Spirituality; Coping; Health; Psychological stress.
