Abstract

MACEDO, João Paulo; ALVES, Cristina de Sousa; BEZERRA, Laís Leal da Silva  and  SILVA, Jamille Rodrigues da. The "popularization" of the profile of Psychology students in Brazil. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.70, n.2, pp. 81-95. ISSN 1809-5267.

This study aims to conduct a longitudinal analysis of the sociodemographic profile of Psychology students in Brazil from information of final year students who took part in the National Assessment of Higher Education Students Performance (Enade) in the years 2009, 2012 and 2015. The study included 28,227 final year students, distributed as follows: 5,190 in 2009, 6,993 in 2012 and 16,044 in 2015. The analysis was conducted in two phases using the software Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21, performing frequency analysis and two-step cluster analysis of the variables of the profile of the students. It was concluded that, among the formed profiles, throughout the three Enade cycles considered, there was a significant increase of the groups considered less elitist among psychology students due to the process of expansion of higher education, changing the historically elitist profile that has been characteristic of psychologists in Brazil.
