Abstract

CARVALHO, Alana Nagai Lins de  and  SILVA, Joilson Pereira da. Sexuality of people with disabilities: a systematic review. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.70, n.3, pp. 289-304. ISSN 1809-5267.

In order to analyze the state of the art on sexuality of people with disabilities, investigating the main themes, objectives and results achieved, the present article consulted the databases Psi Periódicos, PePSIC, LILACS, SciELO and Web of Science, using the descriptors "sexuality", "persons with disabilities", "social representation" and "sexual and reproductive rights", in the Portuguese, English and Spanish languages, retrieving a total of 38 articles published between January 2007 and December 2017. The results involve four main themes: Experiences of sexuality; Perceptions about sexuality; Sexually Transmitted Infections; and Sexual and reproductive rights. Social prejudices and stereotypes, family overprotection, incomplete sex education, and architectural barriers have stood out as the main social conditions that impede the development and exercise of sexuality by people with disabilities.

Keywords : Sexuality; Disabled people; Social representation; Sexual and reproductive rights; Systematic review.
