Abstract

BARROS, Leonardo de Oliveira; LEMOS, Carolina Rodrigues Bueno  and  AMBIEL, Rodolfo Augusto Matteo. Quality of life and satisfaction with the body image of transsexuals. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2019, vol.71, n.1, pp. 184-195. ISSN 1809-5267.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36482/1809-5267.ARBP2019v71i1p.184-195.

This research aimed to investigate the perception of quality of life and satisfaction with the body image of transsexual people. Participants were 88 people with an average age of 25.65 years, 51 of male gender, 31 female gender and 6 non-binary gender. The collection took place online and participants responded to the Abbreviated Instrument of Quality of Life Assessment (WHOQOL-Bref), Body Image Satisfaction Scale and Body Identity Questionnaire. The results indicated that the quality of life is directly influenced by the level of corporal satisfaction. In addition, people with non-binary gender and pansexual orientation showed greater satisfaction with the body. It reinforces the importance of receiving the anxieties inherent to the process of corporal transformation, as well as the psychosocial support network in the development of actions to improve the quality of life of the transsexual person.
