This article intends to discuss the publications in the Journal Arquivos Brasileiros de Psicotécnica (ABP) that deal with the training of the psychologist and the regulation of the profession of psychologist in Brazil, aiming to contribute to a better understanding of the knowledge, practices and influence that appeared in the ABP volumes. Our temporal selection for the 12 articles analyzed included the period between the creation of the ABP by the Institute of Professional Guidance and Selection (ISOP) in 1949 and the year of publication of Law Nº 4,119 in 1962. Important issues were presented in the ABP, such as psychotechnology, professional guidance, educational guidance, educational psychology, clinical psychology, professional ethics, training in psychology and especially contributions to regulate the profession. The ABP was an important publication for the scientific, academic and political debate on Psychology.
