Abstract

SILVA, Gervásio de Araújo Marques da. The crisis of Brazilian social psychology: historical notes. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2019, vol.71, n.3, pp. 48-63. ISSN 1809-5267.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36482/1809-5267.ARBP2019v71i3p.48-63.

This historical work investigated Brazilian social psychology in the 1970s, a period known as the "crisis of social psychology". Narratives point out that the hegemonic model, the cognitive-experimental, was questioned and concern about social transformation emerged. The objective was to identify criticism in the discipline's publications during the "crisis". The methodology was documentary research. Three journals were analyzed: the Arquivos Brasileiros de Psicologia Aplicada, the Boletim de Psicologia and the Psico. The analysis demonstrated the hegemony of the cognitive-experimental model and some criticisms, mainly directed at the experimental methodology and the social irrelevance. Few articles presented alternative models - some were hegemonic forms under another denomination. The humanitarian and community psychiatric model has emerged as a new way of knowing psi. Finally, we emphasize that social transformation did not appear in any text.
