Abstract

BENATTI, Ana Paula  and  PEREIRA, Caroline Rubin Rossato. Paternity's meanings in contexts of social vulnerability. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2020, vol.72, n.2, pp. 105-120. ISSN 1809-5267.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36482/1809-5267.arbp2020v72i1p.105-120.

The present study investigated the meaning of fatherhood experienced in contexts of social vulnerability. Study participants were six parents and six mothers of children, who were registered in a Reference Center of Social Assistance of a city in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Data were collected through a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi structured Interview and were analyzed through Content Analysis. Fathers and mothers indicated a certain consensus about the role attributed to the paternal figure - as the responsible for the financial support of the children and the family. In addition, when considering ideal fatherhood, the "good father" was defined as one that is present in the family routine and in the lives of the children.

Keywords : Father child relations; Paternity; Social vulnerability.
