Abstract

LIGEIRO, Vivian Martins  and  JORGE, Marco Antonio Coutinho. Art, psychoanalysis and the impossible. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2020, vol.72, n.3, pp. 80-97. ISSN 1809-5267.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36482/1809-5267.ARBP2020v72i3p.80-97.

This article aims to problematize the relationship between art and the concept of the impossible, which can be inferred from Freudian and Lacanian formulations. Our main target question is to elucidate how art can transmit and convey something of the real, the unrepresentable, using symbolic-imaginary representations. To this end, we will use a bibliographic review of authors from the field of psychoanalysis and the arts, which make it possible to bring this discussion to light. At first, a brief study of the concept of the impossible is made out of the theories of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan, ranging from Freud;'s first ideas about sexuality to the later Lacanian proposition about the impossibility of the sexual relationship. Finally, we will undertake a dialogue between theimpossibility concerning sexual relationship and some artistic works by Marina Abramovic in order to better understand the scope of these questions.

Keywords : Art; Psychoanalysis; Impossible; Real; Marina Abramovic.
