Abstract

OIKAWA, Fabiana Midori  and  GARCIA, Marcos Roberto Vieira. Psychic suffering and bullying in the university context. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2021, vol.73, n.1, pp. 19-33. ISSN 1809-5267.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36482/1809-5267.ARBP2021v73i1p.19-33.

The article describes the qualitative part of a research that investigated the university context and its implications on the mental health of undergraduate students attended at the Psychology Service of a public university in São Paulo state. From a quantitative survey of the main complaints presented by these students, four focus groups were conducted with the themes "family relationship", "academic difficulties", "career concern" and "interpersonal relationship difficulties" with students who presented each of these complaints. The results of the qualitative analysis highlighted situations of distress related to changes associated with university life, career concerns, and complaints directed to teachers, indicating a strong presence of bullying in the university environment. It was observed that the institutional dynamics of universities undermines relationships and hinders the formation of affective bonds between teachers and students.
