Abstract

CAMPOS, Aline Ferreira  and  RIBEIRO, Jorge Ponciano. Psychotherapy and spirituality: from gestalt therapy to contemporary research. Rev. abordagem gestalt. [online]. 2017, vol.23, n.2, pp. 211-218. ISSN 1809-6867.

The present article investigates how the inclusion of spirituality can benefit the therapy process, bridging Gestalt Therapy with contemporary psychology research. The goal of this study is to describe these benefits, including how spirituality can manifest in the methods, resources, and clinic used by psychotherapists; as well as the impact of their personal spiritual practice. A literature review was conducted with articles from PsychINFO, SciELO, PePSIC, and Getatlt Therapy texts. The religiosity theme was present in many articles and included in the review. Results confirm the prevalence and importance of working on these themes in therapy, as they facilitate efficacy; describe methods utilized such as mediation and prayer; and emphasize ethical issues and the proper training of therapists.

Keywords : Spirituality; Psychotherapy; Religiousness; Gestalt therapy.
