Abstract

RONDAS, Lincoln de Oliveira  and  MACHADO, Lucília Regina de Souza. Professional insertion of transvestites in the world of work: from personal strategies to inclusion policies. Pesqui. prát. psicossociais [online]. 2015, vol.10, n.1, pp. 192-205. ISSN 1809-8908.

This study proposes to analyze the social conditions that prevent some tranvestites from obtaining professional insertion. Based on some of the their own accounts an effort was made to try to identify what sort of impediments have kept tranvestites from being inserted in the job market as well as to identify their own personal strategies to overcome such obstacles. Twelve tranvestites took part in an interview where their social-economic, educational and present work status were analyzed. Positive attitudes towards professional assertiveness and engagement in affirmative actions as a means to be recognized by the job market and society as a whole were also object of analyses. Offensive and defensive theoretical methodologies were used as a reference to identify their professional aspirations and to discuss political policies that may promote access to qualification and jobs and the reinforcement of their acceptance by society.

Keywords : Transvestites; profesional insertion; social inclusion.
