Abstract

CABRAL, Daniel Welton Arruda; RIBEIRO, Luciola Limaverde; SILVA, Débora Linhares da  and  BOMFIM, Zulmira Áurea Cruz. Vygotsky and Freire: the concepts of "consciousness" e "awareness acquisition". Pesqui. prát. psicossociais [online]. 2015, vol.10, n.2, pp. 412-422. ISSN 1809-8908.

This article makes a parallel between the concepts of consciousness, discussed by Vygotsky, and awareness, widespread by Paulo Freire. These concepts were built in different times and contexts by these authors, who were trying to understand how the educational process happens. The possibility of links between these categories comes from the fact that both authors adopt a historical-dialectical materialist framework and both have innovative ideas about cultural and educational change, considering the social context as essential to the formation of conscience. In their works, the two authors had as target to understand the transformation of the individuals. The comparison between these concepts can be a powerful tool to open possibilities on the process of changes.

Keywords : Consciousness; Awareness; Vygotsky; Paulo Freire; Education.
