Resumen

ALMEIDA, Diana Jenifer Ribeiro de  y  QUADROS, Laura Cristina de Toledo. The rock that gave birth: Narratives and practices of pregnant and crack using women who are homeless in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Pesqui. prát. psicossociais [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.1, pp. 225-237. ISSN 1809-8908.

This paper aims to bring to light the narratives and experiences of women who live on the street and use drugs and the ways these experiences relate to motherhood. A relatively unexplored subject that is filled with false myths is presented here as a local example that is set in a broad and complex reality. Following the stories and trajectories of women who abuse crack and other drugs already carries within itself peculiarities. Our focus -on motherhood - allows us to explore this phenomenon beyond the version of neglect and abandonment with which we often label it, since women often do not interrupt drug use despite the pregnancy. We understand this experience as complex and heterogeneous and also largely permeated by controversy. What we bring here is a version that challenges our views and perceptions as researchers.

Palabras clave : women; crack; maternity; controversies and narratives.
