Abstract

The way the school deals with drugs issues interferes on prevention actions, and may affect students' learning paths. This article aims at the comprehension of how teachers tackle this issue on two public schools at a Brazilian city of the district of Campo das Vertentes, at Minas Gerais state. It is a qualitative research that accomplished focuses groups preceded by the application of a socio-demographic form. After the groups' accomplishment, a content analysis was carried out, producing the following core meanings: (a) teachers understand they are in disadvantage regarding the State, family and society responsibilities on the matter; (b) teachers feel unable to deal with the problem, seeing it as having been trivialized in schools, and (c) teachers deal with the issue compatibly with the school vision of the student and of the community. It was observed the need of an intersectorial work and the inclusion of this issue in teachers 'training.
