Abstract

This article exposes an experience from an extension program carried out in a long-stay institution for the elderly, through transdisciplinary action offering physical exercise and playful activities. This is a qualitative study with 30 elderly of both sexes, men aged between 76.88 ± and women aged between 21 ± 78.66 years, was realized 60 meetings in approximately eight months of physical exercise and playful, that aimed to improvement autonomy in activities of daily living, stimulating attention, memory, identity rescue, interaction among the elderly. It was noted the importance of transdisciplinary practice for improving the functional autonomy, through the activities of daily living for institutionalized elderly, whom showed a different profile. This way intervention with physical and recreational activities is necessary and urgent in order to achieve greater: independence, autonomy and quality in this phase of life.
