Abstract

FURLAN, Vinicius  and  ALVAREZ, Maria Dolores. (Im)Possibilities at work with elderly groups in Long-stay Institutions: contributions of Psychology. Pesqui. prát. psicossociais [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.2, pp. 453-463. ISSN 1809-8908.

This report describes a work with elderly groups held in two institutions, as a listening and social interaction space. Both homes enabled: social interaction among the elderly, the possibility to rescue their image and life history, stimulation of verbal communication as well as motor coordination, mutuality, imagination, cognition and memory. At Home 1, the work progress had to shut it by institutional issues, which involved a change to the Home 2. We could see that the (im)possibilities in working with elderly groups in long-stay institutions have different conditions and peculiarities that make up different arrangements and ways of leading the practice, which is crossed by the power and institutional routine, which, depending on how it's configured, can be alienating and lead to loneliness, or allow a decent space to live.
