Abstract

NETO, Mauricio  and  DIMENSTEIN, Magda. Therapeutic Accompaniment Experience: from the hospital to the city. Pesqui. prát. psicossociais [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.2, pp. 489-498. ISSN 1809-8908.

Therapeutic accompaniment (AT) is a clinical and political device that is inserted into the field of mental health as a new and powerful tool for the construction of the autonomy and social, political and cultural emancipation of the mentally ill person. The experience of monitoring with a friendly policy a person with a history of internment in judicial mental hospital allowed deinstitutionalizing the mental care and created new possibilities of living. This follow-up process sought to break with the traditional logic of prison care such as the disciplinary treatment or the control therapy. In this sense, we bet on strategies of social bond and of territorial expansion for the formation of social networks supporting the patient and his family. AT meetings allowed increasing autonomy of the followed person that took decisions and constructed new life projects.

Keywords : Therapeutic accompaniment; Care; Mental health; Autonomy.
