The focus was to raise awareness and train families regarding the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform, in particular the issue of alcohol and other drugs, contributing to change the views and attitudes in the perspective of an anti-asylum culture and harm reduction. The actions were undertaken to help transform the sociocultural imaginary permeated by prejudice, exclusion and marginalization of "mad and drug addicts", influenced by the Policy of "War on Drugs". It also aimed to be a strategy to work the socio-cultural dimension of the psychiatric reform. The intervention took place in the theoretical and methodological perspective of popular education, with educational activities that valued the cultural and popular content of the participants, combined with the principles of psychosocial care. This approach strengthened hospitality and willingness to get together, bringing as a result the empowerment of families by increasing the perception in relation to the issue of alcohol and other drugs.
