INTRODUCTION: The historical process in public policies promoted a breakthrough in the form of care delivery in health and, as a consequence, the need for associating teaching, research and extension, resulting in the necessity for new training investments, such as continuing education on current issues as the problem of drugs and the associated vulnerabilities. OBJECTIVE: Present the extension project Debate Round on Drugs and Associated Vulnerabilities as a continuing education action to strengthen the interaction between intersectoral actors and academic community. METHOD: Study of sequential mixed type using quantitative and qualitative data, conducted through questionnaires and interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using the SPSS software and qualitative datausing the categorical content analysis. Results and discussion: The results showed the significant opportunity of continuing education to professionals and major changes in the perception of the participants on the drugs topic.It is necessary to expand and qualify the university extension programs offering learning alternatives especially on issues permeated by myths and little addressed in the curricula of undergraduate courses.
