Abstract

ZANATTA, Edinara; PEREIRA, Caroline Rubin Rossato  and  ALVES, Amanda Pansard. The experience of motherhood for the first time: the changes experienced in becoming a mother. Pesqui. prát. psicossociais [online]. 2017, vol.12, n.3, pp. 1-16. ISSN 1809-8908.

This study sought to understand the changes perceived by the primiparous mothers in themselves, in their relationships and in the support network from the experience of motherhood. Integrated this study six first-time mothers, whose babies were between seven and twelve months and were participants in a Children's Program at a Basic Health Unit of a city in the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). The research was qualitative, using a semi-structured interview as data collection instrument. The results obtained through the content analysis showed the predominance of feelings of dissatisfaction with the perceived changes in the body and the presence of positive changes in the woman's way of being after motherhood. In addition, stands out the presence of a support network and the role played by baby's father on providing both instrumental and emotional support to the mother.
