Abstract

GIRAO, Marina Serejo  and  COLACO, Veriana de Fátima Rodrigues. ADHD in contemporary childhood: a view from sociology of childhood and cultural historical psychology. Pesqui. prát. psicossociais [online]. 2018, vol.13, n.1, pp. 1-13. ISSN 1809-8908.

Several studies have been conducted on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) since the early 2000s. Many appear to approach it biomedically, disregarding socio-historical factors in its constitution. A systematic review of the literature on ADHD was carried out in order to broaden the perspective on ADHD in the current context, starting with the question: Can cultural historical psychology and the sociology of childhood help to understand ADHD in contemporary times? We searched for articles in the Portal Periódicos Capes with the inclusion criteria: articles published in Portuguese and English in the last ten years, available full-text that portrayed the theme referring to the guiding question. Eight articles were obtained for analysis and it was possible to perceive that there are several contributions of the sociology of childhood and cultural historical psychology to the understanding of ADHD in the present society, although this has been little explicit in the articles raised.

Keywords : Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder; Sociology of Childhood; Cultural-historical psychology.
