Abstract

BARROS, Leonardo de Oliveira  and  MURGO, Camélia Santina. The school of failed students: a qualitative study. Pesqui. prát. psicossociais [online]. 2018, vol.13, n.3, pp. 1-16. ISSN 1809-8908.

This qualitative study aimed to verify the perceptions and meanings attributed to the school by failed students. Twenty-nine adolescents with a history of disapproval, regularly enrolled in the eighth year of a state public school in the interior of the state São Paulo, were 58.6% males and with an average age of 14 years. Participants answered a questionnaire containing open and closed questions and the data were analyzed qualitatively and with descriptive statistics for frequency of responses. The results indicated the predominance of negative perceptions about school, mainly regarding the physical aspects of the school environment and the relationship with teachers and the lack of attribution of meaning about the act of studying. Thus, one notices the need to democratize the school space so that it is constituted as a re-signified environment in the learning process of the students who have failed.

Keywords : School disapproval; School failure; Democratization of education.
