Mental health and the street phenomenon are sometimes linked by economic and social vulnerabilities brought about by the current economic system, capitalism. In view of the problem between mental health and the street phenomenon, this paper sought, through a theoretical discussion, to present the link between mental health, poverty and street situation in the municipality of Ponta Grossa/PR, based on part of results of a Master's research. This discussion used qualitative research, bibliographic research and documentary research, showing the use of compulsory hospitalization, through professionals and family members of psychiatric patients, social confinement as a treatment.
