This paper is the result of a historical investigation about the conditions of the emergence of the Social Psychology Sector of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais as well as the development of its activities. We took as methodological approach, the documental analysis besides interviews and with focus on the period 1964-1994, which was marked by a great political repression, that nevertheless did not silence a critical debate, which led the Sector to have a great contribution to the institutionalization and strengthening of Social Psychology in Brazil. The purpose is to examine the proposal of the sector from the disciplines offered and to understand the diversity of its themes, the interchange of researchers and students with other universities and the internationalization of this project including French groups, emphasizing its contribution to the dissemination and consolidation of Psychosociology.
