Abstract

SOUZA, Rodolfo Rodrigues de. Existentialism and Rio de Janeiro's Political Field (1945-1955): a Phenomenological-Actor-Network Approach. Pesqui. prát. psicossociais [online]. 2021, vol.16, n.3, pp. 1-16. ISSN 1809-8908.

The article presents the arrival of Jean-Paul Sartre's existentialism in Rio de Janeiro, the national capital then, between 1945 and 1955. The argumentative line is built upon the connection between different narratives found in two Rio de Janeiro newspapers, A Manhã and Última Hora, in a perspective that combines the proposals of phenomenology as intended by Sartre and the Actor-Network Theory. In particular, we tell the stories that combine existentialism and the political field, an arena of intense disputes, especially due to a fear of communism. From the succession of narratives, emerges an understanding of the appropriation of the French philosopher's thinking in the country, allowing us to glimpse local characteristics mixed in journalistic texts.

Keywords : Existentialism; Actor-Network Theory; Phenomenology; Rio de Janeiro.
