The present work is structured as a theoretical-practical discussion of an internship in Psychology in the field of Social Assistance policy, specifically in the Social Assistance Reference Centers - CRAS and CREAS. It aims to reflect on the presence of Psychology in the field of Social Assistance through practice in the public service. The insertion in the field was based on the observations of the services provided and home visits. There were some challenges, highlighting the direct confrontation of violence, translated by accompanying the victims, and the difficulties inherent to the public service. As conclusions it made possible the approximation with the work in Psychology through the experience of the routines. In addition, a field rich in experiences was perceived, still little explored in the literature, and in which Psychology is necessary and has much to contribute from its perspective.
