At present, the Special Education is accepted as a multidisciplinary scientific science, still in process of developing its own theoretical, practical and research area. It was not an easy task to get this stage meanly because the concept of special education has been made depend on continuous changes in different areas like psychology, education, politic, or sociology. These changes have often conferred it certain character of ambiguity and avoided the develop of its epistemological bases. With regard to this initial approach, the objective of this article centers on showing: 1) how the conceptual evolution of this concept has affected children’s special needs education; 2) how the Special Education as a this discipline gets to be placed on the context of the Education Science; and 3) why psychological theoretical bases are essential to design and to implement an education adapted to children’s needs. In other words, which reasons made necessary to consider the psychological dimension to treat difficulties in learning.
