In this paper the author draws attention to the way in which the economic crisis affecting the countries in our region -- linked amongst other factors to the lack of good social governmental policies -- has produced arise in the unmet needs of the family unit and a deterioration in the quality care of both the private and public life of the modern family. All the former plus the lack of fairness in the distribution of the domestic and educational responsibility of the offspring, have generated serious tensions within the family structure. It then becomes indispensable to generate spaces in which the state becomes involved in the harmonious organization of the family structures, not as a dictatorial controller, but as a promoter of styles based on cooperation and orientation based on equality. This would in turn promote the development of more harmonious, functional, and less sexist family strutures.
