The theory that underpins teacher practice has been the target of many studies. Much of research aims at investigating the theoretical basis underlying a teacher´s work. However, this paper seeks to go further and investigate the actual foundations of education professionals. To do so, 34 teachers were interviewed, with the purpose of not only finding the basis they say they use, but also the actual practical application of the theory they profess. Also investigated was how teachers conduct the process of evaluation of their students. The answers were tabulated and analyzed through Content Analysis. The results indicate teachers resort to sheer “jargons” to support their performance, which, when further investigated, is shown to be based upon common sense.
