Abstract

Recent studies about organizational commitment. found a structure that embraces more dimensions than the proposals for Meyer and Allen, precursors of Organizational commitment’researchs. The purpouse of this research was to verify differences in the types of commitment between worker’s of five market place’ segments in Brazil. The scale was composed by the types: Affective, Affective/normative, Afiliation, Instrumental and Psychological Absence. The sample was constituted by 521 workers of the public service, trade, philanthropic companies, industry and schools, with ages between 16 and 73 years.. THE type of predominant compromising was the Affective (M=4,01), following for Afiliation (M=3,84), Affective/normative (M=3,42), Instrumental (M=2,42) and Psychological Absence (M=2,41). Significant differences were verified among the groups. The generated knowledge can be used in creation of more effective strategies of integration between the workers' personal objectives and organizational objectives.
