In order to provide free psychotherapy to economically less privileged people, the present work was carried out in the Center of Applied Psychology (CAP) of the São Paulo State University (UNESP), in Bauru city, S.P./ Brasil, during 2002 and 2003. Using Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy, a focal technique, a programme of brief interventions for persons from the community was conducted and evaluated. Twenty-seven trainees, students of Psychology, collaborated. The patients were from the waiting list of CAP. Aims: 1) To offer psychotherapy to adults and adolescents. 2) To evaluate the results obtained. 3) To teach the trainees a pragmatic and useful psychotherapeutic technique. Methodology: 1) Selection of patients. 2) Two initial clinical interviews. 3) Delimitation of a focus. 4) Twenty-three one to one therapeutic sessions. 5) Evaluation of the results: clinical, objective and subjective. The results are presented and discussed. 31 of the 36 patients completed their psychotherapy. The results were highly satisfactory and show the benefits of a planned programme of brief interventions for the community.
