This work analyzes the relationships between the concepts of representation and mimesis. The latter is one of the historical roots of the first one. These relationships are discussed in the fields of painting, literature, spatial aesthetic and culture. This article reveals how the concept of mimesis is behind the thesis of the "language of art", urges to analyze the contrary positions and invites to question discourses that suppose a parallelism among cognitive representation, art and reality.
