Abstract

The present article presents the results of research carried through with the objective to investigate the social representation of Psychology and the Psychologist, according to perception of the population of Assis. In the accomplishment of the research the existence of the Course of Psychology of the Unesp/Assis was taken in account, as well as of the program of psychological attendance to the community, carried through for the Center of Research and Applied Psychology "Doctor Betti Katzenstein", - CPPA that, in thesis, would contribute for construction of a representation of psychological science and the performance of the Psychologist next to the reality. They had been interviewed, from questionnaire previously tested, 271 citizens distributed geographically and proportionally in the different quarters that compose the urban zone of the city. The results suggest the lack of knowledge on the part of the community with relation to the object of study of Psychology and to the forms of professional performance of the Psychologist.
