GABARRA, Letícia Macedo; RUBIO, Kátia  and  ANGELO, Luciana Ferreira. A Psicologia do Esporte na iniciação esportiva infantil. Psicol. Am. Lat. [online]. 2009, n.18, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1870-350X.

Sport and physical activity psychology have several intervention fields, such as rehab, self performance and sport initiation. This work intends to analyze psychologist’s actions towards child sport initiation, since there is so little literature about the possibility of intervention. For this analysis, a study was made on concepts of sport initiation, considering it a process and a product that can have recreation, education and high performance as its goal. Teacher, family and child were described as the main components of this process, which fill the main triad. Considering child sport initiation and triad characteristics, a reflection about the possibility of a sport psychologist action was made. He would be the mediator and facilitator of social relations, and use sport as an instrument for a person’s development. As a result, the person, in search for autonomy, would empower his/her self-esteem and acquire education and health.

Keywords : Sport psychology; Sport initiation; Childhood; Teacher-family-child triad.
