Abstract

The present paper presents the results of data collected from 130 families in Rio do Sul, in order to verify the School Readiness of children between 5 and 6 years old, enrolled in 7 educational centers, in 2007, as well as their Parents’ Stress. The results revealed that exist difference related to the school readiness among families with many and few stressor factors, when analyzed the groups above and beneath the statistic mean. The educational level of mothers in this study was statistically significant. The Global Stress is correlated to those families with few children, which presented higher levels of school readiness. The results also revealed that the higher was the parents’ stress the higher was the school readiness, and that those children, who were among the ones in the group above the statistic mean for school readiness, are sons and daughters of parents with higher global stress.
