ALENCAR, Ana Verônica de; OLIVEIRA, Gislene Farias de; ROLIM NETO, Modesto Leite  y  BIANCO, Bianca Alves Vieira. Social representations of violence from the perception of the aggressor. Psicol. Am. Lat. [online]. 2014, n.26, pp. 24-43. ISSN 1870-350X.

Social representations are explanations, ideas and beliefs of a group of people, allowing invocations over a given event, object or person. The objective was to understand the social representations of violence, the perception of the aggressor. It was a field study, descriptive and qualitative. The sample included 29 participants, all men, arrested for domestic violence. The instrument was one semi-structured interview. Their ages ranged from 18 to 56 years, with the highest concentration in the range 26-35 years (48%). Conceptions of violence evoked were grouped into three categories: a) violent action, with two subcategories: physics and emotional; b) Characterization; and c) Consequence. The speeches of some of the aggressors seem to get them to reflect the consequences of his action. It is recommended that future studies incorporate the variable time of relationship and time of exposure of the victim to violence. We conclude that public policies that propose more effective educational and employment interventions for offenders, not only the penalties of detention, would certainly help to minimize the problem.

Palabras clave : social representations; violence; aggressor.
