GANGLOFF, Bernard; MAYORAL, Luisa; REZRAZI, Amine  and  MALLEH, Neila. Differentiated valuation of coping strategies: a study of employees of Buenos Aires Province. Psicol. Am. Lat. [online]. 2017, n.28, pp.55-87. ISSN 1870-350X.

Faced with difficulties or obstacles, individuals react differently from each other: One of the factors indicating such differences deals with coping strategies. In organizational environment, problem and support coping seem to lead to many benefits, in terms of commitment to work, performance,... which leads to think that line managers expect their subordinates to adopt, to face with difficulties they encounter, problem and support coping, and that these two strategies can be normative. Three populations answered a coping questionnaire, each population being confronted with one of the three main paradigms usually used to highlight the existence of a social norm. Results effectively show that line managers expect their employees to preferentially use problem and support coping, and that these subordinates are generally aware of this expectation, preferentially using these two strategies, as well spontaneously as to be positively appreciated, and conversely declaring not to use any of the three strategies when they want to give a bad image of themselves. Such data are in line with the hypothesized normativity.

Keywords : coping; social norm; organization assessment.
