Abstract

It is a qualitative research with the objective of identifying the potential of development of the 3rd year students of Tourism of the University of Camagüey. For this purpose, the components of the professional motivation and the socio-emotional competences associated to the professional profile were diagnosed in an integrated and dynamic way, using observation, qualitative tests, MBTI and interview. The development potential of the students was determined from the level of development of the competences, mainly self-esteem, self-motivation and decision making; the critical self-evaluation of these, their recognition of the need for self-improvement and commitment to self-development in the future projection. It was found that 14 % of students have high potential, 50 % medium potential and 36 % low potential. Students and university authorities were given feedback in order to stimulate commitment and to promote actions to develop potential.
