The purpose of the following work has been to explore the risk factors associated with the development of an Eating Disorder (TCA), through a literature review. Psychological and socio-cultural risk factors were analyzed, which may account for the etiology of Bulimia Nervosa (BN) and Anorexia Nerviosa (AN). Based on the identification of the factors, different strategies of health promotion, of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention were evaluated, analyzing these prevention strategies from different theoretical frameworks. Regarding the comparison of different primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategies, and health promotion, it is concluded that it is an area of capital importance to improve the quality of life of the people, as well as to stop the course of a Disorders of the Alimentary Conduct. Tertiary prevention has been the most studied to date, which shows that more should still be investigated about primary and secondary prevention. In addition, prevention programs have not yet shown that they can stop the course of a clinical picture of Bulimia Nervosa or Anorexia Nervosa.
