Abstract

VIEIRA, Bruno  and  MAYORGA, Claudia. Youth, political activism, public policies and the mess that is to joint all of this. Psicol. Am. Lat. [online]. 2019, n.32, pp. 107-117. ISSN 1870-350X.

Despite studies and research that dichotomizes youth political participation into two opposite poles - sometimes full participation, sometimes apathy - what can we see beyond this polarization about youth political participation? With this text, we propose a discussion that involves the conceptualization of the term youth, youth articulation with politics and the issue of the incidence of young people in the realization of public policies aimed at themselves. We analyzed two important issues in this mainstay: the perception of youth activism as a form of contestation against an adultocratic order - posed as an arm of colonial processes - and the need for intersection between youth and other social markers (such as gender and race) in the construction of public policy.

Keywords : youth; participation; politics; social psychology.
