Abstract

PALLINI, Ana Celi; OTTATI, Fernanda; CREMASCO, Gabriela da Silva  and  CUNHA, Felipe Augusto. Perceptions of cancer patients on spirituality: a qualitative study. Psicol. Am. Lat. [online]. 2019, n.32, pp. 169-179. ISSN 1870-350X.

The Spirituality is considered an individual experience, which leads to belief or not in a god, and which produces meaning for life, not necessarily linked to religious practice. It has been a useful tool for some areas, especially health, which contributed to the increase in the interest of professionals in understanding and investigating this phenomenon. Considering that cancer is one of the most feared diseases and that has grown considerably, this research sought to verify the perceptions about the spirituality of cancer patients in the treatment process. It was a qualitative study with eight participants, six women, who were interviewed individually. The data were analyzed through the technique of content analysis and the results allowed to discuss the importance of the elaboration of treatments and coping strategies that could encompass the spirituality for better understanding, support, humanization and resignification of the illness and the life of the patients.
