Abstract

DIAS, Maria Sara de Lima. Martin-Baró's legacy: The issue of latin american consciousness. Psicol. Am. Lat. [online]. 2020, n.33, pp. 11-22. ISSN 1870-350X.

This study is based on observations of the author as well as on books and publications that refer to the works of Martín-Baró. One observes the uniqueness and pioneering spirit of his study that points to the fundamental relationship between alienation and consciousness. Working on the identity of the Latin American people as originated and superimposed on a dominant view based on their relationship with the colonizer, the importance of Martin-Baró for decolonial studies is evident. Its timeliness of its thought expressed in liberation psychology reveals the need for social and community action in a reality such as the Brazilian that demands for psychology a praxis that is capable of meeting the real needs of the suffering majorities. In relation to the Latin American population, there is a need to reflect on a psychology forged for a human face and for a conscious awareness of reality.

Keywords : suffering; identity; alienation.
