This article refers to the topicality and relevance of Ignacio Martín-Baró's work in the teaching, research and university extension of Social Psychology. It covers the experience of the author of this communication as a teacher-researcher of the discipline from the encounter with the thought of the salvadoran social psychologist. The description of the professional and academic practice itself allows contextualizing this experience in a particular historical moment and in an academic unit with its own characteristics for the training of psychologists and psychologists (social). The psychosocial and psycho-political perspective of Martín-Baró proposes to focus the urgent problems that arise in Latin American societies, attending to the victims of the economic system. Based on the profound transformations that shook Argentina during the last four decades, reflected in the high rates of poverty, indigence and social marginalization, it is necessary that future professionals can know, understand and contribute to change them.
