Abstract

BOULON-DIAZ, Frances. Participación y liderazgo femenino en la profesión de psicología en Puerto Rico. Rev. Puertorriq. Psicol. [online]. 2012, vol.23, pp. 127-138. ISSN 1946-2026.

The history of psychology in Puerto Rico shows significant participation of females in professional leadership. The proportion of females among licensed psychologists and students has been greater than males and this trend is growing during the twenty first century. This is observed in the student bodies of graduate programs in psychology, the number of psychologists who obtain licenses to practice and other indicators of leadership, such as presiding professional organizations. Implications of the feminization of psychology in Puerto Rico are analyzed, including labor issues, decision-making power, training and quality of psychological services. Concerns about future directions are raised, and the psychological community is invited to share ideas for enhancing the profession in Puerto Rico and communities with common interests.
